Dear Annette: I didn’t get a chance to thank you for the lovely
flowers you did for my daughter’s wedding. I was pleased with the
colors Elizabeth chose (the flowers simply glowed as the sun streamed
through them), but I know that Elizabeth left it to you to basically
design all the arrangements. The flowers on the arbor were wonderful.
They were full and gorgeous, but not too formal and the cake table
was just plain fun. And we used the flowers from the bridal table and
the tall arrangements for the breakfast buffet the next morning. It
is always a leap of faith in working with a vendor you don’t have any
experience with. But I couldn’t have asked for more. Many of the
guests commented on how beautiful both the setting and the flowers
were. I couldn’t have been more pleased and certainly felt with got
our money’s worth. So many thanks, Sue Chris
Summer Wedding Flowers
You can’t go wrong with an abundance of flowers at a summer wedding. There are so many varieties in season, you may have a tough time narrowing your choices down! Fill the scene with bright and cheerful flowers such as roses, sunflowers, red and yellow calla lilies, dahlias, gerber daisies, cosmos, mums, and zinnias. Bright purple dendrobium orchids are much less expensive during the summer months, so you can feel like a queen without the budget of one.
An alternative idea is an airy summer look with mostly white and light colored flowers such as roses, stephanotis, white phlox, elegant white calla lilies, huge and fragrant casa blanca lilies, hydrangea, snowball mums, and daisies (also known as Shasta daisies).

Of course stopping in the floral shop is a great way to select and order your flower shop. You get to see the flowers before you purchase them. In addition, you have to make a decision as to which florist to select. If you do not currently reside in Los Angeles, you may find it difficult to locate the right florist.

How to keep you Valentine’s day flowers fresh!
Only pick flowers right before placing them in a vase: At the flower shop we consider the lifespan of picked flowers super short; as in under a week. If roses didn’t sell within a week, we send them back to the farm for compost. Flowers after being cut are basically dying right away. If you need a beautiful bouquet for a party, picking your flowers should be something you do right before the event. IF you need open blooms fast, place the flowers in warm water.
Use only clean vases and other containers: Many gardening and floral books say you should only put flowers in bleach cleaned vases. I’m not a bleach supporter, plus research shows that hot water does clean. Your goal is to clean any mold spores out because obviously mold is not good for flowers. Also, after washing rinse your vases well, as soap can change the water conditions.
Never submerge leaves in the water: Any foliage below the water line should be removed because they can introduce bacteria and slime you don’t want to the water, which in turn smells funky and can killflowers.
Cut flowers like room temp: Flowers hate being on something hot; i.e. a too sunny window, on top of an appliance, and so on. They also don’t love drafts. Try to keep your vases placed in an area that’s moderate.
Hardy stems need a good smashing: If you pound on the ends of woody or thick stems – think lilacs they can absorb more water and last longer.
The best food is flower food: While you may hear rumors about pennies, bleach, and other stuff making flowers last longer, the best choice is actual cut flower food; or so every single flower shop and nursery worker I’ve known has said. If you buy at a flower shop, you usually get a small packet. If you pick flowers at home, you can buy some flower preservatives at a local nursery or home & garden shop.
Valentine’s Day flowers meaning
The Society of American Florists helps you sort out what the meanings behind flowers. Good thing too, because Valentine’s Day is the last day you’d want to give your sweetheart flowers that stand for distrust (Lavender) or friendship (pink rose) if you’re looking for something more than friendship. Not that Lavender doesn’t rock in a Valentine’s bouquet though – the meanings list is more fun than serious.

How To Choose Your Winter Wedding Bouquet
Remember, to choose a winter wedding bouquet, your bouquet should have winter accents. Winter accents are like pine cones, holly leaves, baby’s breath, berries and others.
Winter flowers are like freesias, lilies, poinsettias, hydrangeas or even roses. Combine winter flowers with winteraccents, you get a lovely bridal bouquet.
Colours play a role, too. Winter colours are like red, white, gold, silver and green. Sometimes blue isalso considered a winter colour. Match these colours with the colour of your wedding gown and your wedding would be perfect.
If you will be wearing a white gown, a wedding bouquet with a combination of red and white is simply lovely.
If you wear a cream or ivory wedding gown, a white with some gold wedding bouquet is suitable. The gold will add some glitter to your wedding gown, making you glow. Something every bridewants.
The shape of your wedding bouquet is actually depending on the style that you want to present. If you want the formal look, you go for a cascade bouquet.
If you want a casual look, you should go for the hand-tied bouquet. The hand-tied bouquet is gaining popularity nowadays because of its informal look.
If you love the casual style, why not make your own hand-tied wedding bouquet? Here are ideas for your bouquet :
Ideas For Your Winter Wedding Bouquet

2009 Decor Trends
2009 Wedding Theme: Wilderness Adventure
More couples are looking for very unique ideas for that memorable wedding, and some of the new themes for summer wedding include botanical garden setting, rainforests and wilderness-inspired décor. Capture the moment by recreating a cabin in the woods, decorating with a tropical rainforest theme or bringing the outdoors in’ with centerpieces and decorations plucked from nature.
2009 Wedding Theme: Stripes Galore

From the wedding cake to the invitations, stripes are the design of the year, replacing the once-popular polka dots and brocade-style prints of seasons past. Black and white stripes provide a structured and refined look for the event, while multicolored stripes can coordinate easily with any major theme color palette.
2009 Wedding Theme: Romance

2008 wedding themes called for a taste of the tropics with weddings centered around exotic locales such as Cancun and Hawaii. One of the year’s leading trends will be a taste of the Caribbean, and one that’s not only reserved for the destination wedding. Look for Caribbean-inspired décor and bright color combinations including orange, yellow, red and turquoise for a truly tropical affair.
2009 Wedding Theme: Think Pink
From pink Chinese lanterns to oversized pink bows on the wedding dress, this is the year to experiment with a super-romantic palette and warm up to all shades of pink, fuchsia and magenta. Pink will continue to be a top trend for bridesmaid dresses as well, so it can complement an otherwise neutral-themed palette to add a splash of color.
Stick to a Favorite Hue
On any budget a monochromatic color scheme can pull a room together, adding up to a result that depends less on individual elements than on the overall look. Few will notice, for instance, if the pink flowers are carnations and chrysanthemums instead of more expensive roses or peonies, as long as the other similarly hued details work well together. Using a beautiful pale pink tablecloth, napkins and flowers can look more powerful and substantial than having several colors.
